A private K2 Airways cargo plane carrying five crew members went missing over the Arabian Sea on Tuesday night.

Pakistani authorities have intensified search and rescue operations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the Civil Aviation Authority, Pakistan Navy, and Pakistan Air Force to deploy all available resources for the search, according to state-run Radio Pakistan on Wednesday.

The Boeing 737-400 aircraft lost contact approximately 287 kilometers west of Karachi while heading from Sharjah to Karachi, according to reports from the Pakistan Airports Authority.

The pilot reported a navigation system issue at 9:18 p. m.

and received guidance from the Karachi Area Control Centre before the tracking connection failed.

The Pakistan Airports Authority noted that the aircraft showed unusual behavior shortly before disappearing from the tracking screens.

It was described as "rapidly descending."

Officials noted that the aircraft made a sharp heading change during its final moments of tracking. "Radar contact and communication were lost," stated the Pakistan Airports Authority.

President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep concern regarding the missing aircraft and extended support to the families of the crew.

"The president extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the aircraft's crew and expressed complete solidarity with them during this hour of trial," stated the President House.

According to FlightRadar, the missing plane, registered as AP-BOI, was originally built as a passenger jet in 1999 and converted into a freighter in 2012 before joining K2 Airways in 2024.
