Lawmakers are scheduled to return from recess on Monday, leaving a limited number of days before the September 30 deadline to fund the government for fiscal 2027.

McConnell plays a vital role in these negotiations as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, according to the Washington Post.

Health Status and Family Response

The lawmaker entered his third week of hospitalization following a June 14 emergency dispatch call that revealed he was unconscious.

While rumors circulate regarding his condition, representatives for his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, confirmed she remained on a pre-planned trip to China during the initial weeks because his health did not require an immediate return.

"The secretary was on a long-planned trip in China to support her family's philanthropic endeavors," said a spokesperson for Chao.

"During the trip, she met with a number of people, including the U. S.

ambassador. The Senator's health did not warrant an immediate return to the U.

S."

Chao has since returned to the United States, while McConnell's office has kept specific details about his medical status confidential.
