Wildfires in the southeastern Spanish province of Almeria have killed 13 people, including seven British nationals, after an electrical cable fell on a road last Thursday.
Postmortem examinations confirmed that 12 of the 13 victims were foreign nationals who died in the Andalusia region.

The casualties included three individuals from Belgium, one from France, one from the United States, and one Spanish citizen.
The public body responsible for identifying the victims stated that the deceased consisted of eight women and five men, all adults.
Emergency services initially recovered 12 badly burned bodies, requiring DNA samples for proper identification.
The blazes devastated approximately 7,000 hectares of land after high winds fanned flames through forests and scrubland made dry by extreme heatwaves.
Authorities confirmed that some victims died inside their vehicles while attempting to flee the village of Bedar, which bore the brunt of the fire.
Among the British nationals who perished in Bedar were Pete and Fran Gillam. Their family members later acknowledged the tragedy online.

"We are heartbroken to share that we have received confirmation from the police that Mum and Dad did not survive the fire.
Thank you for all your love, support and prayers over the past few days.
They have meant more to us than we can ever express," said Danielle Gillam-Kirton, daughter of Pete and Fran Gillam.
Another British man died in his car during the evacuation of the Los Gallardos area while trying to rescue his pets.
The European Forest Fire Information System noted that Spain has experienced increasingly long and frequent heatwaves exceeding 40°C, with more than 393,000 hectares destroyed by fire in 2025.

The flames from last Thursday's fire have since been brought under control, allowing residents to return to their homes since Sunday.
