Spain booked their place in the World Cup 2026 final in New Jersey after a commanding performance against France.

Luis de la Fuente's side controlled the match after taking the lead, leaving Didier Deschamps' team struggling to find a breakthrough.

The scoring opened midway through the first half when Lucas Digne committed a defensive error that led to a penalty for Spain.

Lamine Yamal contested a cross from the right which deflected off Digne, before the French left-back fouled him in the area.

Despite questions about a potential handball by Yamal during the buildup, referee Ivan Barton's decision was upheld by VAR.

Mikel Oyarzabal stepped up and clinically converted the spot-kick past goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

France suffered another setback shortly after when defender William Saliba was forced off due to injury, replaced by Maxence Lacroix.

Spain nearly doubled their lead before halftime when Dani Olmo and Yamal set up Fabian Ruiz, whose close-range effort was blocked by Dayot Upamecano.

Deschamps made tactical adjustments in the second half, introducing Manu Kone for Adrien Rabiot and later Desire Doue for Bradley Barcola.

However, Spain continued to dominate possession and sealed the victory with a beautifully constructed second goal.

Pedro Porro found the net after receiving a clever return pass from Dani Olmo as the French defense opened up on the left side.

Yamal had a third goal disallowed due to a narrow offside call shortly after the hour mark.

Kylian Mbappe created a rare opportunity for France in the 64th minute, but his cross-shot was saved by Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon.

A late free-kick from Mbappe cleared the crossbar, while Ferran Torres missed a chance to add a third goal for Spain in the closing stages.
