BMW has introduced a ChatGPT plugin that allows users to configure vehicles through natural conversation.
The tool combines generative AI with BMW's product database to ensure builds are real and available.

How the ChatGPT Configurator Works
Shoppers can describe their ideal car in plain language, such as 'configure a red 3-Series with 19-inch wheels.'
The AI then translates the request into a valid BMW configuration.
Users don't need deep knowledge of BMW models. They can specify characteristics like size, ground clearance, or powertrain, and ChatGPT will suggest suitable options.
The plugin also enables comparisons of running costs and factors like driving dynamics or all-wheel drive availability.

Access and Availability
To use the configurator, users must visit ChatGPT.com, access the Plugins menu, and search for BMW.
However, initial tests on mobile and desktop returned a message that no matching plugin was found.
BMW states the service works on both mobile and desktop, but it's unclear if the plugin is available globally or limited to certain markets like Germany.
