Josh Kerr, the former 1500m world champion, is set to attempt breaking the one-mile world record at the London Diamond League on Saturday.

He aims to surpass Hicham El Guerrouj's long-standing record of 3 minutes 43.13 seconds, set in 1999.

At 28 years old, Kerr expressed confidence in his abilities.

"My body is capable of the mark, so my job tomorrow is to have my mind available to let my body do its job.

I'm very excited," he said.

Kerr believes this moment represents a unique opportunity in his athletic career.

Kerr has been vocal about his ambitions, announcing his record bid in March, before the outdoor season began.

His attempt, dubbed "Project 222," reflects the seconds he needs to achieve his goal.

His team has developed custom spikes and a specialized race kit for the event.

"To do that, we have to give moments, we have to give reason," Kerr said, emphasizing the importance of making athletics appealing to a broader audience.

He views this challenge as a way to elevate the sport's profile.

The presence of Yared Nuguse, the Olympic 1500m bronze medalist and fourth-fastest miler in history, adds an intriguing element to the race.
