Under the standard payment schedule, distributions are issued on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month based on birth dates.
Recipients born between the 1st and 10th received payments on July 8, while those born between the 11th and 20th were paid on July 15.
Beneficiaries who began receiving benefits prior to May 1997 or who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income were paid on July 2.
Average monthly retirement benefits stood at approximately $1,937 in June 2026, according to agency data.
Disability benefits average $1,496.16 monthly, while survivor benefits average $1,631.39.
Maximum retirement benefits reach $5,181 per month in 2026 for workers who delay claiming until age 70.
Individuals claiming at full retirement age receive up to $4,152 monthly, while those claiming at age 62 receive a maximum of $2,969.
To qualify for the maximum payout, workers must earn at or above the taxable wage cap for at least 35 years.
The agency estimates that only 1 to 2 percent of beneficiaries meet the criteria for the maximum payment level.
