Canadian officials noted that trade hostilities have driven up consumer costs, particularly for American households, prompting Canada to offer intensive bilateral negotiations to resolve outstanding issues.
"Canada believes in the benefits of free and fair trade, as evidenced by our new government's signing of more than 20 new economic and security partnerships.
This trade dispute has resulted in higher costs for families, particularly in the United States.
Canada is prepared to engage intensively to resolve outstanding issues with the United States, in the mutual interest of our citizens," Carney said.
The Canadian government affirmed it will continue taking all required actions to strengthen the domestic economy and protect national interests throughout the dispute.
