Formula 1 commercial pioneer Paddy McNally has died at the age of 88. He passed away on July 22, 2026, at his home in Sevenhampton, Wiltshire.
His death comes just two months after the sudden passing of his son, Sean, in Scotland.

From journalist to business magnate
Born in Kent, McNally began his career as a motorsport journalist. He later transitioned into commercial sponsorship.
In the early 1980s, he established Allsports Management in Geneva, working closely with former F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone.
Through Allsports Management, McNally secured exclusive rights to Formula 1 trackside advertising.
He also created the Paddock Club, which transformed grand prix corporate hospitality into a major revenue stream.

CVC Capital Partners acquired the business in 2006 for 262.4 million pounds.
Personal life and legacy
Following the death of his wife Anne Downing in 1980, McNally was in a relationship with Sarah Ferguson from 1982 to 1985.
The two remained lifelong close friends.
McNally retired from his executive role in 2011.

He was predeceased by his wife Anne and his son Sean, and is survived by his son Rollo.
