Hull City has secured the signing of left-back Matt Targett on a free transfer, the club announced on July 23, 2026.
The defender joins after his contract with Newcastle United expired.

Targett has signed a two-year deal with a club option for an additional year.
He spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, making 45 Championship appearances and leading the team with 52 interceptions.
His final match for Middlesbrough was the play-off final defeat against Hull City, a result that sent the Tigers to the Premier League.
Pre-season Integration
Targett has joined Hull's squad for their pre-season trip to Slovenia.
The team will face Konyaspor and Rizespor in friendlies before traveling to Istanbul for a match against Kasimpasa.
The defender shared his expectations for the upcoming season with the newly promoted side.
"I'm at an age now where I feel like I am an experienced head to pass on previous experience of the Premier League to players who have not been in this situation," Targett said.
"I'm hoping I'll be a huge help in the dressing room."

He recalled the moment his agent contacted him about Hull City's interest.
"It was during the England game on Saturday night that my agent rang me and said Hull City were interested," Targett said.
Targett outlined the discussion with the club's leadership that led to his move. "The next minute, I was on a phone call with the owner.
