Ajax secured a 2-1 half-time lead over FK Vojvodina in the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League on July 23, 2026, in Novi Sad, Serbia.
The match marked the official debut of new head coach Míchel Sánchez.

Davy Klaassen opened the scoring for Ajax in the third minute, converting a rebound after a cross from Kasper Dolberg.
The early goal was the fastest scored by a new Ajax manager in his debut match since Aad de Mos in 1981.
Vojvodina equalized in the 28th minute when Petar Sukacev headed in a cross past Ajax defender Bouwman.
Ajax restored their lead in the 37th minute through Steven Berghuis, who struck the ball into the net following a corner kick.

In parallel European action on the same evening, FC Twente played to a 1-1 half-time draw against Hungarian side Ferencváros in the Europa League second qualifying round.
Ferencváros took the lead through Joseph in the 15th minute after a mistake by Van Rooij, before Twente debutant Adelgaard equalized in the 39th minute.

Former Ajax player Dusan Tadic visited his former teammates at their hotel in Novi Sad prior to the match.
Tadic began his professional career at Vojvodina before playing for FC Groningen, FC Twente, Southampton, and Ajax.
He was recently linked with a potential transfer to Dutch club NEC.
Ahead of FC Twente's fixture, head coach John van den Brom confirmed the decision to start striker Wout Weghorst.
"He already played an hour last Saturday against AA Gent and you could see that his fitness is fine.
And that is the first thing you look at. So for me there is no discussion about him starting," said John van den Brom.
