Spy photographers have caught the facelifted BMW X2 M Performance variant testing, revealing significant design updates and a new interior.
The crossover coupe is expected to drop the M35i badge in favor of M40 branding when it arrives next year.

Neue Klasse Design Language
Despite heavy camouflage, the X2 M40 adopts a Neue Klasse face, echoing the iX3 and X5. The large grille is replaced by a tall, narrow twin-kidney setup.
New headlights and a redesigned bumper flank the grille. The bumper features less aggressive styling with tame vertical air curtains.
The profile remains largely unchanged, but new side skirts are visible. The prototype rides on 20-inch Individual 869i wheels with a high-performance brake system and blue calipers.
At the rear, new taillight graphics and slimmer reflectors appear. The bumper is also new, with a conventional license plate recess.
Inside, a single image shows a full-width display at the base of the windshield, indicating Panoramic iDrive.

It will likely include a 17.9-inch infotainment system and a new steering wheel.
Powertrain and Performance
Powertrain details remain under wraps.
The current X2 M35i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 312 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.
It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive, enabling a 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.

The new X2 M40 is expected to offer slightly more power and improved performance.
