British Prime Minister reshuffled the government architecture on July 22, 2026, establishing No.10 North and creating the Office for the Prime Minister and Cabinet to empower regional leaders and accelerate national economic expansion.
The administrative overhaul shifts regional economic policy away from HM Treasury and local growth strategy from the Housing Ministry, consolidating both under the newly created No.10 North entity.
Officials intend for this new central engine to serve as the primary catalyst for devolution and localized economic development.
New Office for the Prime Minister and Cabinet
Under the restructuring, the government formed the Office for the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) to house No.10, No.10 North, and core Cabinet Office operations.
The OPMC will integrate a specialized AI Taskforce alongside an advisory team to steer nationwide artificial intelligence deployment and public sector modernization.
To streamline central operations, several responsibilities are leaving the Cabinet Office.
The Office for Equality and Opportunity transfers to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, while the Public Sector Fraud Authority moves to the Department for Work and Pensions with continued HM Treasury sponsorship.
Additionally, the Department for Business and Trade has been renamed the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (DBIST).
The revamped entity will integrate former Department for Science, Innovation and Technology functions, absorbing foundational research, scale-up funding, and oversight of the National Wealth Fund.
