Ford is recalling more than 565,000 Broncos and Bronco Raptors from the 2021 to 2026 model years due to a fire risk caused by chafed wiring in the engine bay.
The automaker's investigation found that movement between the engine compartment wiring harness and surrounding components can wear through the protective covering.

Over time, exposed wires can short circuit and ignite nearby flammable materials.
Raptor Models More Susceptible
Ford identified 15 fires linked to the issue: seven involving Bronco Raptors and eight involving standard Broncos.
The company inspected over 80 vehicles and found evidence of rubbing and wear on some harness coverings.
The investigation revealed that the Bronco Raptor's unique architecture and suspension make it more prone to harness contact.

However, standard Broncos can also experience enough abrasion to expose internal circuits.
Drivers may first notice smoke through the air vents or warning messages in the instrument cluster before seeing flames from the passenger side of the engine bay.
Ford says it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the problem.

To fix the issue, dealers will install additional protective sheathing and abrasion tape on the wiring harness. Owner notifications are scheduled to begin in late August.
