A new safety recall has hit Toyota and Lexus, covering 617 vehicles in the United States.

The defect involves forged aluminum front steering knuckles that may not be as strong as intended.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published the recall.

All affected vehicles are from the 2026 model year.

What Went Wrong

The issue traces back to the supplier, Bharat Forge Aluminum USA, not Toyota itself.

One batch of knuckles skipped the aging furnace step during production.

Without that step, the part is weaker than it should be.

Toyota warns the knuckle could fracture at the strut or tie rod attachment point if a car hits a pothole or a curb.

That could lead to a loss of control.

The supplier spotted the potential fault in late June 2026 during a routine quality audit and contacted Toyota.

Testing confirmed the weak knuckles had been fitted to 617 vehicles.

The Lexus list includes TX350 units built between June 19, 2026, and June 25, 2026, and TX500H units assembled between June 19, 2026, and June 25, 2026.

RX350H and RX350 models built from June 18, 2026, to June 24, 2026, are also involved, along with a single RX500H built on June 23, 2026.

On the Toyota side, the recall covers Grand Highlanders built from June 19, 2026, to June 26, 2026, and Grand Highlander Hybrids built from June 19, 2026, to June 25, 2026.

Toyota says it has not received any warranty claims about the subpar knuckles.

The company also says it has not been alerted to any accidents or injuries tied to the defect.

Owners will be notified of the recall on November 2.

Dealers will inspect the knuckles to determine if they belong to the affected batch.

If they do, the parts will be replaced free of charge.
