Mayo overcame an early ten-point Connacht Championship defeat to Roscommon by securing subsequent victories over Cork and Louth.
Their defensive structure tightened significantly during the championship run, shutting out Louth from scoring for nearly 30 consecutive minutes in the semi-final stage.
Former Players Praise Tally's Impact
Tally previously coached Tyrone to an All-Ireland title in 2003 and assisted Kerry during their 2022 championship triumph before joining Andy Moran's backroom team.
Former Tyrone player Owen Mulligan noted Tally's influence on squad preparation and tactical setup.
"Having Paddy Tally involved with Mayo is a massive advantage," said Owen Mulligan, former Tyrone player.
Mulligan highlighted Tally's historical success with Tyrone and praised his coaching credentials while discussing Mayo's defensive matchups against Kerry's forward line.
"Paddy was with Kerry for two years and knows them inside and out. Paddy trained the 2003 Tyrone team that won our first All Ireland.
He would probably be the best coach I’ve ever worked under," said Owen Mulligan.
Former Monaghan forward Conor McManus emphasized that Tally's coaching methods brought structural stability to Mayo's defensive line following their early season defeat.
"There is no magic formula here. Kerry should win pulling up," said Conor McManus.
