The diplomatic pause follows a brief spike above $100 per barrel last week after Houthi forces threatened a Red Sea blockade against Saudi Arabia.
Despite the drop in crude prices, US fuel costs remained elevated.
According to the AAA motor club, the national average for regular gasoline hovered at $4.11 per gallon on Sunday, while average diesel prices held at $5.30 per gallon, reflecting a 41 percent increase since the outbreak of hostilities.
Diplomatic Talks Resume
Diplomatic talks have resumed at multiple levels while both nations hold off on further military engagements near the Strait of Hormuz, according to officials.
US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz commented on the strategic pause during an appearance on NBC's Meet the Press.
"What the president is doing right now, as we've seen all along, is giving some talks some space," Waltz said.
"Talks are ongoing; they're happening at every level."
In a separate regional conflict, tensions expanded into the Caspian Sea where Ukrainian forces targeted military cargo vessels linked to Tehran.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the long-range operations in a social media update.
