Iranian naval forces fired warning shots to force the ships to abort their journey, marking another escalation along the strategic maritime trade corridor following recent hostilities with Washington that renewed on July 7.

State television earlier reported an incident involving a single vessel before updating the details.
"Last night, six ships trying to pass on a route different from the designated one were stopped by the Revolutionary Guard navy using warning shots and forced to turn back," reported a Gulf correspondent for Iranian state television.

This latest intervention follows a similar action on Saturday, when the Revolutionary Guard announced stopping four ships in the southern part of the strait using warning shots.
