This approach contrasts with FIFA's decisions for the 2030 World Cup, where South American host countries secured direct entry after hosting individual opening matches.

England co-hosts the 24-team tournament alongside Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland.
Matches will take place at major venues including Wembley, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Etihad Stadium, Hill Dickinson Stadium, St James' Park, and Villa Park.
Direct qualification was traditionally granted to tournament hosts, similar to the entry provided to North American nations for the 2026 World Cup.
