Sir Ian Wood, the Scottish billionaire who built Wood Group into a global energy services giant, has died at the age of 84.
He passed away peacefully at his home in Aberdeen on Sunday evening, surrounded by his family.

Born and raised in Aberdeen, Wood initially took over his family's fishing business in 1967.
He later transformed it into an engineering enterprise serving the North Sea oil and gas sector.
Under his leadership, Wood Group grew into an international powerhouse valued at over £5 billion at its peak.
He also served as chairman of Scottish Enterprise and was appointed to the Order of the Thistle, Scotland's highest order of chivalry.
Family Tribute and Charitable Legacy
His family confirmed his passing in an official statement, highlighting his focus on personal life and charity work.
"Sir Ian was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend," the Wood family said.

They noted his charitable legacy through The Wood Foundation, which supports global education and social initiatives.
"He believed in finding the right balance between what you do for yourself, and what you do for others," the family said.
Sir Ian is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lady Helen, their three sons Nic, Graham, and Garreth, and seven grandchildren.
The family expressed gratitude to his healthcare team and requested privacy to grieve.
"Sir Ian's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, the organisations he helped build and the values he championed throughout his life," the family said.
Douglas Lumsden, Scottish Conservative MP for Aberdeen South, paid tribute: "Scotland has lost a true guiding light of its business community."

Lumsden praised Wood's global reputation in energy and his philanthropic work at home and abroad.
