Scottish political and business leaders paid tribute on Sunday following the death of Ian Wood, a prominent billionaire philanthropist who significantly shaped Scotland's energy sector and economic development.
Ranked third on Scotland's rich list in May with an estimated family fortune of £1.876 billion according to The Sunday Times, Wood led Energy Transition Zone Ltd and Opportunity North East until his passing.

First Minister Honors Wood's Legacy
First Minister John Swinney honored Wood as one of the most influential figures in the nation's corporate history.
"Through his leadership of Wood Group, he helped transform a modest family business into a global energy services company, playing a pivotal role in the growth of the North Sea oil and gas industry and establishing Scotland as a world-renowned centre of energy expertise," said Swinney.
Swinney highlighted Wood's extensive civic commitments and dedication to his hometown of Aberdeen.
"His devotion to his home city of Aberdeen saw him champion initiatives that have strengthened the north east of Scotland and supported the evolution of the region's economy through his tireless advocacy for economic development, innovation and opportunity," said Swinney.
The First Minister noted Wood's ongoing work toward long-term environmental and economic strategies for future generations.
"From promoting technology and skills development to helping drive the transition towards a lower-carbon future, he has consistently worked to secure long-term prosperity for future generations," said Swinney.
Swinney further praised the global reach of Wood's philanthropic endeavors.
