The son of former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt advanced through qualifying rounds, benefiting from two opponent withdrawals.
His main draw debut could see him face American Marcos Giron in the first round, with a potential second-round match against top Australian seed Alex de Minaur.
Qualifying Journey
Hewitt was leading against former world No. 23 Dusan Lajovic before Lajovic withdrew.
Later, he fought back from a first-set loss to win the second in a tiebreak against world No. 73 Zachary Svajda, who then retired early in the third set.
His progression follows a notable junior run at Wimbledon, where he defeated several promising teenagers.
He received a wildcard into qualifying for the Washington event, which features a strong field including top American players Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, and Tommy Paul.
