WestJet has introduced flexible rebooking and cancellation options for passengers traveling between July 30 and August 4, anticipating a potential strike by its flight attendants as early as August 2.
The airline is currently in negotiations with the flight attendants' union over unresolved issues regarding wages, unpaid work, and scheduling practices.

While a strike has not been confirmed, WestJet is allowing customers to make a one-time itinerary modification or cancellation without the usual change fees.
Refund Policy Details
Passenger refunds under the flexible policy depend heavily on the specific fare class purchased.
Most standard tickets, including discounted fares, do not qualify for cash refunds before an official flight cancellation.
Instead, the monetary value of canceled tickets is transferred to a WestJet Travel Bank account as future travel credits valid for one year.

Full refunds to original payment methods, such as credit cards, are primarily available for premium tier tickets like PremiumFlex, BusinessFlex, or specific international business class fares between Canada and Asia.
Under current regulations, if WestJet preemptively cancels a flight due to labor action without a prior passenger cancellation request, the airline must refund the original payment method or rebook travelers on alternative carriers.
One Yellowknife resident traveling internationally expressed frustration after discovering their $15,000 ticket purchase could only be converted into non-transferable travel credits under the current advisory policy.
"I have booked an expensive international flight for my family and I am not actually able to get my money back, as WestJet is advertising.
