Schoharie County authorities have removed 78 animals from a property in Carlisle during an active animal cruelty investigation.
Deputies first responded around 8 p. m.

on July 24, 2026, after receiving a report about animal welfare concerns at the location.
Upon arrival, they discovered multiple puppies suffering from severe medical conditions that required emergency care.
Three critically ill puppies were taken to Upstate Veterinary Specialties in Latham for emergency treatment, with help from the Town of Carlisle Dog Control and the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley.
The following morning, deputies returned with representatives from the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, the Susquehanna SPCA, and Town of Carlisle Dog Control to continue the investigation and conduct medical evaluations.

Authorities found additional puppies in critical condition, which the owner voluntarily surrendered to the Susquehanna SPCA for emergency veterinary treatment.
Deputies then secured a search warrant for the property, leading to the seizure of numerous other animals needing medical attention.
Animals Taken to Shelters for Care
In total, 78 animals were removed, including 17 surrendered puppies, 12 seized dogs, nine seized cats, 31 seized birds, five seized chickens, and four seized horses.
The animals were transported to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley and the Susquehanna SPCA for care and evaluation.

The Schoharie County Sheriff's Office stated that the investigation remains active and no further information or criminal charges have been announced.
