Toronto police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Monday morning outside the U. S.
Consulate in downtown Toronto.
Officers heard gunfire around 4:45 a. m.
at 360 University Ave. , near University Avenue and Armoury Street.
A white sedan was seen fleeing the scene.
No injuries were reported, and no suspect description has been released. Police have cordoned off the area, closing University Avenue at Dundas Street to traffic.
It is not yet confirmed whether the consulate was the intended target.
This is the second shooting near the diplomatic building this year, following an incident on March 10.
The March shooting was declared a national security matter by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. That investigation uncovered a gun-for-hire network involving youth, leading to multiple arrests.
Last month, two men—Zara Jabbi and Sheldon Tracey-Stewart—were charged in connection with the March attack.
Prosecutors allege they drove a stolen vehicle to the consulate and fired shots before abandoning the car.
Jabbi faces six counts, including vehicle theft and attacking the premises of internationally protected persons. Tracey-Stewart faces 11 charges, including illegal firearm possession and discharge.
American prosecutors and the FBI have linked the March event to Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, an alleged Iraqi terrorist with ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Al-Saadi was arrested in Turkey in May and remains in U. S.
custody.
Toronto police have not confirmed any connection between Al-Saadi and Monday's incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-2222.
