Dutch semiconductor equipment maker ASML accounts for nearly a quarter of total gains on the European stock market in 2026, according to Bloomberg figures released on July 27, 2026.

The data highlights a concentrated rally driven by artificial intelligence demand.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 8.8% this year, with nearly 60% of those gains generated by just 10 stocks.

ASML led the market after surging 55% from approximately €1,000 to €1,550 per share, boosted by its massive market weight.

British bank HSBC followed as the second-largest contributor, generating 8% of the gain.

While those top 10 companies contributed over 5 percentage points to the index, the remaining nearly 590 companies delivered under 4 percentage points combined.

Furthermore, the number of individual European companies falling by more than 20% has more than doubled compared to the previous year, revealing underlying market vulnerability.

Market concentration has increased as investors treat European chipmakers like Infineon and STMicroelectronics as essential artificial intelligence suppliers.

Technology accounts for only 8% of the Stoxx Europe 600 index, compared to 36% in the U. S.

S&P 500 and 26% for European financial firms.

Aneeka Gupta, director of macroeconomic research at WisdomTree UK, stated, "The return profile has become very narrow. That creates a clear short-term vulnerability."

The surge in European tech comes as Wall Street reassesses massive capital expenditures by American technology giants.
