Greater Toronto Area residents should prepare for severe weather as rain and potential thunderstorms are forecast through Tuesday afternoon.

The unstable pattern brings high humidity and heavy downpours, according to local meteorological forecasts.

Temperatures in Toronto reached 26°C on Monday afternoon, with humidity making conditions feel like 36°C.

Moderate wildfire smoke haze is expected to linger overnight before moving east toward other parts of Ontario by Tuesday night.

Heavy Downpours and Lightning Expected

"As we get through the rest of this afternoon, heavy downpours, on-and-off showers and thunderstorms.

Quite a bit of lightning as well, so you want to be indoors as these storms roll through.

That will target, once again, the GTA through the rest of the afternoon, even continuing into the early evening hours," said a meteorologist.

A brief respite with sunny breaks will precede another round of storm risks on Tuesday afternoon.

Daytime highs will reach 24°C alongside northern wind gusts up to 50 kilometers per hour.

"Tomorrow, as that line of storms comes through, those winds are going to be shifting out of the north, and that will flush out a lot of this high humidity that we’re dealing with today," the meteorologist added.

Conditions are expected to clear up by Thursday and Friday with sunny skies and highs reaching 27°C.
