Four Dutch nationals who went missing while crossing Lake Malawi have been found alive and safely brought back to land, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.
Emergency crews provided medical care on shore following the rescue operation.

The group had departed Mbamba Bay in Tanzania aboard a speedboat bound for Nkhata Bay in Malawi, alongside three crew members.
A large-scale search was triggered after the vessel failed to arrive at its destination at the expected time.
Search teams, supported by local fishermen and coastal residents, scoured the lake for the missing vessel.
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that authorities from Malawi, Tanzania, and embassy personnel coordinated the rescue efforts.

Local lodge owner Vincent Kouwenhoven, who assisted in the search effort, said his island manager received a distress call that prompted the deployment of speedboats and a light aircraft.
Kouwenhoven reported that the pilot spotted the overturned vessel, allowing local fishermen to pull the stranded passengers from the water.
He noted that the survivors appeared to be in reasonable condition upon reaching the shore.
Kouwenhoven emphasized that the group had arranged the crossing independently rather than staying as guests at his accommodations.
He warned against independent boat crossings on the lake due to unpredictable weather patterns, pointing out that violent storms are particularly frequent in July.
