Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow launched the track and field competition for the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Monday, July 27, welcoming thousands of spectators to its newly renovated facility.
Glasgow stepped in to host the downsized event after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew.

Organizers adapted the city's existing infrastructure, transforming the home of the Glasgow Warriors rugby team into an athletics arena capable of hosting up to 12,000 daily spectators.
Venue Upgrades and Legacy
Upgrades to the venue include a new floodlighting system, modernized restrooms, temporary grandstands adding 2,500 seats, and a state-of-the-art blue track supplied by sports flooring specialist DYNAMIK.
The upgraded surface, gifted to the city post-Games, features air cell technology designed to maximize performance during the 59 gold medal events scheduled through August 1.
Glasgow 2026 leadership highlighted the venue's role in establishing a lasting legacy for local sport following the short-notice preparations.
"Scotstoun Stadium is set to be a real focal point for Glasgow 2026," said Phil Batty OBE, Chief Executive at Glasgow 2026.
"There will be an electric atmosphere at Scotstoun Stadium, given the calibre and scale of the athletics competition taking place there.
The return of the Commonwealth Mile will be one of the must-see moments of the Games."
Organizers stressed that the venue investment aims to support local grassroots sports long after the international competition concludes.
"Our investment will not only provide world-class facilities for the Commonwealth's leading athletes, but it will also create a local legacy, strengthening opportunities for grassroots Athletics post-Games.
