Conservation officials have issued a flood outlook for the Greater Toronto Area as multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms sweep across Southern and Central Ontario.
Environment Canada reported a high probability of severe weather extending overnight, with rainfall amounts potentially reaching 50 mm and intense hourly rates exceeding 20 mm in short periods.

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority warned communities about high runoff risks, urging residents to stay away from fast-moving water, riverbanks, and low-lying underpasses during peak storm activity.
“Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. Be prepared for severe weather.
If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail,” officials stated in the weather alert.

Regional weather monitors noted that southwestern regions face strong risks of power outages and localized flash flooding from repeating storm clusters before atmospheric conditions stabilize overnight.
“The forecasted thunderstorms are expected to bring up to 50 mm of total rainfall with heavy rain intensities at times, potentially exceeding 20 mm in one hour,” the conservation authority said in a statement.

Emergency protocols and municipal monitoring across flood-vulnerable areas remain active through Tuesday night. Officials advised travelers to avoid submerged roads and follow municipal detour guidance.
