General Hospital has recast the role of Ethan Lovett, with British actor Christian Howard making his debut on the Monday, July 27, 2026, episode.
He appeared opposite Maura West's Ava Jerome, officially taking over from former series regular Nathan Dean.

A voiceover during the broadcast confirmed the casting transition.
Howard steps into the role just months after Dean returned to the show on April 17 following a six-year absence from Port Charles.
Howard brings a background in martial arts, stunt work, fight choreography, and screenwriting to the role.
He previously served as Jean-Claude Van Damme's stunt double in the 2012 film Alien Uprising and starred as Ken Masters in live-action Street Fighter projects.
Dean's Return and Departure
Dean originally joined the show in January 2009 as the secret son of Luke Spencer and Holly Sutton, portrayed by Anthony Geary and Emma Samms.
He exited in 2012 and made short-term comebacks in 2013, 2015, and 2020. The role was also briefly played by James Ryan for two days in 2023.
Dean explained that his decision to return in the spring was influenced by the passing of Geary.

Executive producer Frank Valentini and casting director Mark Teschner reached out to him.
Initially, they wanted a three-year commitment, but Dean could only agree to four months due to personal obligations.
Following the announcement of his short-term return, Dean expressed excitement about reconnecting with colleagues and meeting new cast members.
Transitioning back to daytime television proved demanding for Dean, who had moved outside of Austin and previously starred in prime-time series such as Roswell, New Mexico and The Originals.
Despite the fast-paced adjustment, Dean enjoyed reuniting with co-stars including Maurice Benard and Jane Elliot, as well as working alongside Alexa Havins.
During Dean's recent stint, Ethan's storyline involved a secret connection to Delilah Wilson, played by Lily Cardone, who died after giving birth to baby Phoebe.
Ethan initially claimed to be Phoebe's father before admitting the truth to Ava.

The child's true biological father remains unknown as Brook Lynn Quartermaine and Harrison Chase pursue adoption.
