Trump's Push to End Filibuster Rejected
The shift comes as President Donald Trump urged Senate Republicans on social media to terminate the filibuster before Democrats regain power, warning of political consequences if his party failed to act.
"Whichever Party Terminates the Filibuster FIRST will be the Party that survives and thrives," said President Donald Trump.
Trump argued that inaction would allow political opponents to gain control and alter the nation's stability dramatically.
"If the Dumocrats win this race, however, America will rapidly become nothing more than a Third World Nation!"

Senate Majority Leader John Thune rejected calls to alter the rule, confirming that a majority of Senate Republicans oppose eliminating the 60-vote threshold.

"Republicans are not getting rid of the legislative filibuster," said Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S. D.
Thune explained that administration officials met with around 20 party senators earlier this year to pitch ending the procedure, but 15 expressed firm opposition.

Fetterman characterized the requirement as an essential barrier preventing conservative legislative proposals from passing without bipartisan support.

He cautioned that without the rule, sweeping measures concerning election procedures, abortion restrictions, and citizenship policies could have already been enacted.
