Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior is reportedly set to skip pre-season training this week as contract extension negotiations stall.

The 26-year-old Brazilian international is entering the final year of his current deal at the Bernabeu.

According to reports from Sky, Real Madrid has responded to the situation by issuing a counter-offer to the winger.

Talks have dragged on for over a year because Vinicius requested a wage packet matching teammate Kylian Mbappe.

Arsenal is attempting to capitalize on the standoff by tempting Vinicius with a record-breaking contract, as reported by the Telegraph and The Athletic.

The English club is prepared to make him the highest-paid player in their history to lure him to London.

Standard Sport reports that Vinicius will stay away from the Valdebebas training ground until his future is fully resolved.

Although he leans toward staying with Real Madrid, the club wants a quick decision to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.

Mourinho's Stance and Past Friction

Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho remains determined to keep the winger, who recorded 22 goals and 14 assists last season.

However, the two share an explosive history following a Champions League match against Benfica in February.

"When you score a goal like that, you celebrate in a respectful way," Mourinho said.

He previously criticized Vinicius's exuberant celebrations and suggested the player held some responsibility for frequent friction on the pitch.

"Something is not right there, because it happens in every stadium. In every stadium in which Vinicius plays, something happens.

Always," Mourinho added.

Despite their past disagreements, Mourinho is fully planning his squad around the Brazilian pillar.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid is also closing in on a transfer for young Ivorian winger Yan Diomande, which will not impact Vinicius's future.
