The new Pajero will ride on the same ladder-frame architecture as the Triton pickup, with a tweaked suspension setup.

Spy shots indicate a boxy, aggressive design similar in size to the Lexus GX, positioning it against the Nissan Patrol and Toyota Land Cruiser.

Powertrain Options

The range is expected to launch with a 2.4-liter twin-turbo diesel four-cylinder, producing 201 hp and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm) of torque, lifted from the Triton.

A hybrid variant is also in the works, potentially borrowing the Outlander PHEV's layout with a 2.4-liter gas engine, two electric motors, and a lithium-ion battery for 248 hp and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm).

Pricing in Japan is rumored to fall between 5 million and 7 million yen ($30,500 - $42,700).
