Major Rugby has initiated a voluntary nationwide recall of 12 packages of levothyroxine sodium tablets due to subpotency issues.
The affected prescription drugs were distributed across the United States starting in January 2025.

According to a Food and Drug Administration report, testing revealed that the recalled pills deliver a lower dosage than intended.
The products were packaged as individual packs of 10 and boxes containing 10 blister packs under both Major and Cardinal brand names.
Affected Dosage Strengths and Lot Numbers
The recall covers specific lot numbers of 25 mcg, 50 mcg, 75 mcg, 88 mcg, 112 mcg, 125 mcg, and 150 mcg dosage strengths.
Expiration dates range from July 2026 to January 2027.

Levothyroxine sodium is widely prescribed to treat hypothyroidism, enlarged thyroid glands, and certain types of thyroid cancer.
Despite the dosage deficiency, the company noted that severe health consequences are unexpected for consumers who ingested the affected lots.
“It is not likely to cause adverse health effects,” said Major Rugby.

Health officials advise patients holding the recalled packages to consult their physicians and return the product to their point of purchase.
