Country music singer Trace Adkins recently opened up about surviving a near-fatal shooting in 1994, when his ex-wife shot him point-blank during an argument.
The 64-year-old artist shared the story on an episode of the podcast "This Past Weekend with Theo Von," reflecting on the incident that left him with a bullet wound that passed through his heart and both lungs.

Adkins explained that the argument started because his then-wife wanted him to leave the house, but he refused.
"She put it under my left arm and the bullet came out under my right arm," he recalled.
He said he approached her with his hand out to take the firearm when she pulled the trigger.
His body immediately went into shock, and he remembers getting up, taking a few steps, and then collapsing.
Doctors later told Adkins that the bullet's high velocity was key to his survival. "It didn't have time to mushroom.

It was just muzzle velocity, so it just went straight through," he said.
Despite the severity of the injury, Adkins chose not to press criminal charges against his former partner.
He noted that he had never seen her handle a gun before and believed she thought it was a toy.
The shooting occurred while Adkins was separated from his second wife, Julie Curtis, before their divorce later that year.
