Director Christopher Nolan has mounted a large-scale film adaptation of Homer's ancient epic poem The Odyssey, aiming to make the classical narrative accessible to contemporary moviegoers through an ensemble cast.
The cinematic project features Matt Damon as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca who embarks on a decade-long voyage home following the Trojan War.

The narrative centers on his efforts to return to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus.
"It's something that we all know a little bit about, some of us know a lot about it, some of us know nothing about it," said Nolan.
The director noted that the creative team designed the feature to appeal to audiences regardless of their prior familiarity with the source text.
"We're making the film for that whole range of people's relationship with this foundational text of this incredible story," he added.
Damon described the lead character as a complex protagonist whose actions carry significant consequences throughout the overarching storyline.
"He's a very complicated protagonist, which I love, and Chris reveals how and why in his way, and a lot becomes clear by the end of the movie, which explains a lot of how he's behaving at the beginning," said Damon.
He highlighted the grounded nature of the main character amidst the monumental scale of the production.
"I think for a story that's this big, it's wonderful to have a character that's very human at the center.
