European football's governing body UEFA will hold an emergency virtual meeting this week following FIFA's plan to sell stakes in its major competitions to external private investors.
The Football Association and CONCACAF joined European leaders in expressing deep concern over the proposal to create a commercial subsidiary for events such as the World Cup.

Critics fear that private capital could force a massive expansion of international tournaments, further cluttering an already overcrowded global football calendar.
An FA spokeswoman said: "We were completely unaware of this proposal and have no substantive details, including what the proposition actually is and what conditions are attached."
The English governing body highlighted significant procedural flaws in how FIFA communicated its strategy to member associations.
An FA spokeswoman said: "Based on the limited information, we are deeply concerned about the lack of process and governance to get to this point, and the apparent substance and principles involved."
The organization confirmed it will review any formal documents once FIFA releases them transparently to the global football community.
An FA spokeswoman said: "When the proposal is shared in the full and transparent way now promised by FIFA, we will make our views clear and comment further."
North and Central American football authority CONCACAF echoed those governance concerns in an official statement, criticizing the lack of prior consultation.
