Oscar-winning Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard died at the age of 56 following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Lucan, County Dublin, early Wednesday morning, July 29, 2026.

Emergency services and local police were alerted to the collision shortly before 4:30 a. m.

on the R109 Lower Road, between Tinkers Hill and Rugged Lane in the Strawberry Beds area.

Hansard lost control of his motorcycle and was treated at the scene, but he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to EVOKE.

Gardaí Appeal for Witnesses

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana released an official statement regarding the fatal incident.

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal single-vehicle collision on Lower Road, Strawberry Beds, Lucan, Dublin on Wednesday 29th July 2026," the spokesperson said.

The scene was preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and local traffic diversions were put in place.

"Shortly before 4:30am, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision involving a motor cycle on the R109 Lower Road, between Tinkers Hill (R121) and Rugged Lane," the spokesperson added.

Investigating officers are urging witnesses and road users with camera or dash-cam footage from the area at the time to contact authorities.

"The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, was treated at the scene but was pronounced deceased a short time later," the spokesperson said.

Gardaí confirmed that forensic investigations into the precise cause of the crash are ongoing.
