Agricultural advisers warn that compounding global factors could influence local food pricing structures.

"We are looking at different planting systems in the future which will protect the soil from high temperatures," Plowright said.

The combination of climate patterns and international supply strains presents rare market conditions for British agriculture.

"This is the first year I've known where things not just here in the UK but elsewhere in the world, [with] geopolitical issues or weather patterns like El Nino, where we could actually see a big impact on prices locally," said Sam Pociecha, an agronomist who advises farmers.

Drought conditions were previously declared in North Wales and the Upper Severn basin, while parts of eastern Scotland remain monitored under significant water scarcity classifications.

"They are amazingly resilient," Pociecha said.
