Josh Richardson has officially announced his retirement from professional basketball, concluding a 10-year NBA career. The 32-year-old guard made the announcement on July 29, 2026.
Richardson was drafted 40th overall by the Miami Heat in 2015 and spent his first four seasons with the team.

He was later traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Jimmy Butler.
During his single season with the 76ers, Richardson averaged 13.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.
He was then traded to the Dallas Mavericks for Seth Curry.
His tenure with the Mavericks marked the beginning of several team changes, including stints with the Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, and New Orleans Pelicans.
Richardson returned to the Miami Heat for the final two seasons of his career but did not appear in any games during the 2025-2026 season after being traded to the Utah Jazz and subsequently waived.

Reflecting on his career, Richardson said, "I always gave my best; that’s why I can say this with no regret.
I am grateful to have been able to love this game and it love me back as much as it did."
He added, "It wasn’t set up for me at any point in my career, and from high school, college, and the pros, I humbly worked my butt off every day to be the best that I could be.
All my fans, coaches and teammates, I hope I left a good impression and a positive view of me."

Richardson appeared in 554 NBA games, averaging 11.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists while shooting 42.8% from the field and 36.3% from three-point range.
