The Boston Red Sox have hit a significant obstacle in their roster planning after newly acquired second baseman Curtis Mead suffered a fractured left wrist.
The injury was diagnosed on the same day Boston lost 4-3 to the Oakland Athletics, snapping a nine-game road winning streak.

Mead will now consult a hand specialist in Boston to determine the full extent of the fracture and establish a recovery timeline.
This is not Mead's first experience with such an injury. He missed 62 days during the 2023 season after fracturing the same left wrist.
If the recovery period is similar, he could return just before the end of the regular season.
Impact on the Clubhouse and Front Office
Interim manager Chad Tracy expressed the emotional toll the injury has taken on the team.
"Tough, especially for the kid," Tracy told reporters. "He got here, he's a player we like.

Boston acquired Mead to boost middle-of-the-order power hitting after identifying a lack of home run production early in the season.
The team had won 23 of 27 games and currently holds a 1.5-game lead over Cleveland for the final wild card spot, sitting two games ahead of Minnesota.
With rookie starters Jake Bennett and Payton Tolle facing heavy workloads, management had prioritized adding offense along with pitching rotation and bullpen depth.
