Oakland Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz left Wednesday night's game against the Boston Red Sox after being struck on the left wrist by a pitch.
The incident occurred in the first inning at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento.

Red Sox pitcher Patrick Sandoval's inside pitch hit Kurtz as he attempted to check his swing.
Kurtz was in visible pain immediately after the impact, doubling over near home plate. He initially stayed in the game but was removed by the second inning.
Jeff McNeil replaced Kurtz at first base. The 23-year-old underwent further evaluation, including X-rays, to check for fractures.
This is the second wrist injury from a hit-by-pitch in the series.

On Monday, Boston Red Sox infielder Curtis Mead fractured his wrist in his debut and is expected to miss up to eight weeks.
Kurtz entered the game with a . 260 batting average, 21 home runs, and 69 RBIs in his second season with Oakland.
He earned his first All-Star selection earlier this summer.
Oakland entered the matchup with a 45-62 record, fourth in the AL West, after a 4-3 win over Boston on Tuesday.
