Jackie, the beloved bald eagle from Big Bear Lake, was moved from the intensive care unit to a regular hospital care unit on July 29, 2026, at the Ojai Raptor Center in Ventura County, California.
Veterinarians confirmed that Jackie remains in stable but critical condition after being rescued following a fight with two younger eagles near Big Bear Lake.

Encouraging Milestone in Recovery
While her transfer marks an encouraging milestone, medical teams noted she is still undergoing intensive monitoring to determine the underlying cause of her condition.
Jackie previously suffered a medical setback when her blood values dropped, requiring a life-saving blood transfusion from a resident bald eagle named Spirit at the CALM Zoo in Bakersfield.
Since receiving treatment, her packed cell volume increased from 8 percent to 16 percent, allowing her to eat independently and display higher energy levels.
Medical staff have also placed protective carpal guards on Jackie's wing joints to prevent skin injuries while she rests in her enclosure.
In public updates, wildlife officials refer to Jackie by her official intake designation, patient 26-519, in compliance with state and federal regulations governing public depictions of rehabilitation animals.
