Emergency responders evacuated residents and holidaymakers from homes and a caravan park near Dunwich Cliffs in Suffolk late Wednesday night after authorities declared a major incident due to a fast-spreading wildfire.
Holidaymaker Justin North reported being abruptly woken at 11:30 p. m.

North described the sudden arrival of emergency services at their door as "hammering."
Emergency officials ordered the couple to leave the premises without delay as smoke filled the surrounding area, telling them to "go immediately."
The rapid evacuation left no opportunity for the couple to gather their personal belongings before fleeing the residence.

North said they "didn't really give it much thought," noting they had seen smoke earlier around 5:30 p.
m. but did not anticipate the situation worsening.
Driving conditions deteriorated rapidly due to heavy smoke obscuring vision in the dark, forcing the couple to sleep inside their vehicle before reaching an official evacuation center.
