An 86-year-old pensioner with Parkinson's disease has been convicted under a fast-track court system for an unpaid car tax bill of just £3.34.
The Newcastle resident faced criminal prosecution by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) after missing an annual £20 tax payment for his silver Ford Fiesta in January.

Prosecution Details
The six-week prosecution period ran from February to mid-March, during which the vehicle remained untaxed.
The defendant's daughter, who manages his finances, was moving house at the time and inadvertently overlooked the renewal.
The case was processed through the Single Justice Procedure, a mechanism where magistrates sit behind closed doors to handle low-level offenses.
The DVLA issued the criminal charge by mail before learning of the individual's circumstances.
The pensioner submitted a written guilty plea, detailing his household's severe health challenges.
In his submission to Lincoln Magistrates' Court, he wrote: "She has to do much on keeping on top of everything for my wife and I.
We are both nearly 87. I have Parkinson's disease and my wife has Alzheimer's.

(She) overlooked paying my tax renewal of £20.
She had moved address and we assumed the original letter or reminder re tax went to her old address."
The defendant also noted he had already paid an £80 penalty fine and expressed confusion over receiving the criminal notice.
He confirmed the vehicle is currently being sold as he is no longer fit to drive.
Magistrate Lynda Briggs accepted the guilty plea without imposing further financial penalties beyond the £3.34 compensation order to the DVLA, alongside an absolute discharge.
Under current guidelines, prosecutors do not automatically review written mitigation statements before magistrates reach a verdict.
The magistrate sentenced 60 other DVLA cases on the same day, yielding nearly £25,000 in total fines, fees, and compensation.
