Olympic champion Sanne Wevers will make her international return at the European Gymnastics Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, scheduled from August 13 to August 16, 2026.

Wevers, who won gold on the balance beam at the 2016 Rio Olympics, last competed internationally at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

She returned to competition at the Dutch national championships in June, winning gold on the balance beam after a two-year hiatus.

Her comeback comes amid a roster transition for the national program.

Her twin sister Lieke Wevers retired from professional gymnastics last month to join the Spanish women's team coaching staff ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The main lineup includes Naomi Visser, Sanna Veerman, and Floor Slooff, alongside Wevers and 15-year-old Vera Ubbink, who will make her international senior championship debut.

Ubbink secured her spot after earning a bronze medal on the balance beam at the national championships earlier this summer.

Vera van Pol and Mara Slippens were named as reserves.

The Dutch junior squad, comprising Lola Roeleveld and Lize de Haan, will also travel to Croatia for their respective competitions.

The European Championships serve as a key preparation event for the 2026 World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam later this year and initiate early preparations toward the 2028 Olympic Games.
