Hamas has agreed to a plan for complete disarmament in the Gaza Strip, following an announcement by US President Donald Trump.
A senior Hamas official confirmed the group's acceptance to the BBC on July 31, 2026.

The official said an official public statement would be released shortly. Israeli officials have not yet issued a comment on the agreement.
Part of Ceasefire Framework
The disarmament plan is part of the second phase of a US-brokered ceasefire arrangement.
It also includes the reconstruction of Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli forces as disarmament progresses.
President Trump stated that the framework represents a crucial step toward establishing a new Palestinian governing authority in the region.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the plan as "antisemitic." Palestinian officials previously noted that court actions against Israeli leadership set an important historical precedent.
In 2024, the International Criminal Court issued warrants for Prime Minister Netanyahu, former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas commander Mohammed Deif.
In September 2025, a UN commission of inquiry reported findings accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza. Israel's foreign ministry categorically rejected the report as distorted and false.
According to the Hamas-run health ministry, whose figures are verified by the UN, more than 73,290 people have been killed in Gaza during the conflict, including 21,280 children.

Additionally, 1,168 Palestinians have been killed since last October's initial ceasefire.
