Kim Kardashian has agreed to waive a $167,000 debt owed by Ivan Cantu, who sued her over a mistaken Instagram post in 2024.

The decision was confirmed by her legal team on July 30, 2026.

Cantu filed the lawsuit after Kardashian posted his photo instead of an inmate with the same name.

The post was part of her advocacy to stop the inmate's execution.

A federal judge dismissed all claims against Kardashian and ordered Cantu to pay her legal fees. However, Kardashian chose not to collect the amount.

Her representative stated, "This is a lawsuit that should never have been filed.

The Court agreed and threw it out and ordered that [Ivan Cantu] pay Kim's legal fees.

Kim agreed to waive those fees and so [Ivan] has dismissed his case with prejudice."

Cantu had accused Kardashian of invasion of privacy, emotional distress, libel, and slander. He claimed the post damaged his reputation.

His attorney criticized the misuse of social media, saying, "Social media is a powerful force.

It can be used for good: to spark social change, to warn of danger, and to foster relationships.

But, when abused, social media can also inflict pain, suffering, and tragedy."

The lawyer added that Cantu's privacy was destroyed and he suffered lasting trauma.

Kardashian denied the allegations and said she deleted the photo as soon as she realized the error.

She described the lawsuit as an attempt to benefit from a mistake. Kardashian also expressed sympathy for Cantu's story and reiterated her commitment to criminal justice reform.

Over the years, she has used her platform to advocate for legal reform and support those she believes were wrongfully convicted.
