Two minor earthquakes rattled different parts of California recently, according to the U. S.
Geological Survey.

A light tremor struck northeast of Pauma Valley in San Diego County on Friday, July 31, 2026, at around 1:10 p.
m. local time.
The quake occurred at a depth of about 9 miles. Weak to light shaking was felt as far north as Perris and as far south as Miramar.
Earlier, on July 21, a magnitude 2.2 earthquake was recorded near Honey Lake. It initially registered at 1.8 before being upgraded by seismologists.
That event hit at 12:25 p. m.
at a shallower depth of 2 miles.
Safety Guidance from Officials
The Department of Homeland Security notes that earthquakes are most frequent in states like Alaska, California, and Hawaii.
Globally, an estimated 500,000 detectable quakes occur annually.

To minimize injury during sudden shaking, emergency officials advise: "Wherever you are, drop down to your hands and knees and hold onto something sturdy."
For those with mobility limitations or using assistive devices, officials said, "If you're using a wheelchair or walker with a seat, make sure your wheels are locked and remain seated until the shaking stops."
After the shaking, serious hazards can emerge.
"There can be serious hazards after an earthquake, such as damage to the building, leaking gas and water lines, or downed power lines," officials warned.
Residents should stay vigilant for aftershocks. "Expect aftershocks to follow the main shock of an earthquake.
Be ready to Drop, Cover, and Hold On if you feel an aftershock," officials added.
